Representative Audit of Britain

With support from the Economic and Social Research Council (ES/L016508/1) we have conducted a comprehensive survey of candidates and MPs seeking re-election who stood in the 2015 British general election. The survey examines the attitudes, backgrounds and experiences of parliamentary candidates. The anonymised data will be made available through the British Data Archive once the project is completed and can be combined with the British Elections Study, the Constituency Campaigning Project and the Party Member Study to provide a comprehensive analysis of the 2015 British general election.

The project combines the British Representation Study and the Comparative Candidate Study, fielding both pre- and post-election surveys and includes a series of face-to-face interviews with candidates. The Representative Audit of Britain will facilitate our understanding of who represents us!

The research team comprises of eight academics and three research assistants from seven UK universities.

  • Professor Rosie Campbell, Principal Investigator (Birkbeck); Dr Jennifer vanHeerde-Hudson, Lead co-Investigator (UCL) & Dr Wolfgang Rudig (Strathclyde), co-Investigator
